First review of the year! This one is about Terry Pratchett’s very first Discworld novel; The Colour of Magic and his second Discworld novel; The Light Fantastic.
I bought my copies several years ago and I think this is my third or fourth time reading them.
Both my copies have 285 pages.
“On a world supported on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown), a gleeful, explosive, wickedly eccentric expedition sets out. There's an avaricious but inept wizard, a naive tourist whose luggage moves on hundreds of dear little legs, dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and of course THE EDGE on the planet...”
The first two books in the Discworld series are the start of a fantastic series. Unfortunately they are not that great. The story can be confusing and there’s too much going on; it ends up being all over the map.
But the situational humor is great and there are amazing references to legends, books and other stuff.
Reading these first few books does make you appreciate the series as a whole; the character development, the world-building and the overarching plot. I definitely recommend starting the series in order even though the first two or three books aren’t the best.
